When does pulling your child's hair become irresponsible parental behavior?

pulling hair
Guy asked:

I'm in a little quandry here. It's common sense that pulling a child's hair is an effective behavioral modification technique. However, when does hairpulling cross over from effective parenting to overstepping parental boundaries? In Tehran, it is written under Islamic law that hair pulling is acceptable as long as there are no more than 3 bald spots as a result of previous hairpulling. However, I checked the books on this, and it appears that elsewhere, up to 5 bald spots are acceptable. When does it become too much? Thank you in advance for your help.

Ahmed

Wow. I didn't know this was acceptable under any conditions. I feel sorry for your kids.

Maybe you should try asking this in the religion section - you might get more answers there, everyone here will find this abusive and offensive.

The only time I would condone pulling a child's hair is when they pull yours and telling them no is inneffective.

Bald spots? No wonder all these third world countries with screwed up religions raise terrorists!

maybe in iran it's okay. i don't even know that for sure.
it's not okay here at all. but the good thing is that if you do it, you con get locked up for child abuse. then some BIG guy gets to abuse you.
see karma does work.

Talk about cultural differences!

You would actually pull the hair out so hard that you create a bald spot on your own flesh and blood??

The worldwide organization Human Rights Watch lists hairpulling as a form of torture.

wow this is horrible parenting stiles!!!

this is never the right thing and i would think if you where in a Western country that you would be in jail for child abuse if you did this type of thing and at the very lest the child would be in protective custody for there safety

I think you are in serious need of some psychological evaluation, and I hope somebody reports you to child welfare services, and even removes your child or children from your "care". Of course, it depends where you live. You might live in one of those countries where child abuse is dismissed as being of no importance.

There is also the possibility that your whole post is phony.

The first time you do it. DUH! That's child abuse. I hope you don't have children and are just trying to be funny. You're not funny by the way, just stupid.

Why would you pull your kid's hair in the first place? Ok that's in Tehran. This is America and pulling your kid's hair here is considered abuse. Smack the kid across it's mouth if it does something wrong. Brother Ahmed I don't know much about Shariah Law as I haven't studied it. Please consult an Imam at your mosque. Ramadan Kareem.
