How do I stop mascara from clumping?

by Kim on July 3, 2009

mascara
La-Bella-Vita asked:

I've used many different mascaras and always find that they go on too clumpy! I just recently invested in a M.A.C mascara, and it still looks ugly on my eyelashes. Any tips?

Don’t put too much on, and there are some little brushes that are for your eye lashes…those help to unclump it.

u have to learn how to put mascara on. it depends on how you apply it, not which mascara you invest in

Oh I saw an episode on the Tyra Banks show about it this is what you do
1. Take a tissue
2. Dip the tip of the masscara brush into the tip
3. And twist

Make sure your mascara is very liquid, the really goopy ones don’t work and I would use covergirl instead of M.A.C

invest in a mascara seperater, you can find them next to eyelash curlers in the makeup alies. Also maybe your putting the mascara on wrong? Have you asked MAC makeup workers to show you a good way of putting mascara on

when i use it i take the brush an go left to right first on the end of my lashes. then take it threw my actuall lashes. I never get clumpy,

also are you trying to put ALOT of it on at the same time. If you want alot of mascara, you have to put some on, let dry then try for more. if you try in one setting, it gets clumpy.

You need to get HD mascara by bee luscious cosmetics its the only mascara I ever used that no matter what NEVER ever clumped.

honestly, do not invest in mac mascaras. i bought one “on sale” for 11 dollars (because i made another purchase) it was mac’s ZOOM LASH and it ALWAYS clumps! i love to put on AT LEAST 4 coats of mascara. and this one always clumps by the 2nd or 3rd coat! so i dont use it. try BENEFIT’s BADGIRL LASH ($28)or HIGH DEFINITION from CLINIQUE($13.50). for the last two years i’ve been using XXL by LOREAL, and even though i have all these other mascaras of more expensive brands, i ALWAYS come back to this one, because it never clumps even when i put 10 coats on!! i love it. but on occasion i’ll put on soem loreal volumous mascara. maybe you’ll love it too…. also, if your FAVORITE mascara does clump, use a clean mascara wand sampler (i just take them from mac, or sephora) and brush them a couple times. then use a brush to brush away any clumps that may have fallen on to your face. :o ) hope that helps!!

The easiest trick is simple…blot the mascara wand on some facial tissue to take off the excess makeup. Then apply and wait at least one minute between coats putting no more than 2 coats on each eye. It is an absolute don’t to reapply once mascara is dry. Throughout the day if it is looking/feeling on the clumpy side use a fine toothed lash comb to brush it out. Voila!

take a paper towel (not a tissue because it gets a all the white stuff on it from the tissue) and put the mascara applicator in it and twist but not to hard because you don’t want to break it. then apply it. that should get rid of all the dried up mascara on the aplicator.

also try to find some non-clumping mascara. i suggest great last by maybelline. hope that helped! =)

the only one i’ve ever found, that doesn’t clump is volume exact by cover girl. it was also the cheapest of all the ones i’ve tried.
