Three months is a good expiration date for mascara you use every day. It will begin to clump more easily. But what you may not realize is that it is drying out. It is most likely wearing off your eyelashes. Whereas if it were new, it would stay put all day.
Usually mascara should be replaced every 3 months. You can tell if it's bad when it's dried up. 10 months is a long time to keep a mascara. Bacteria can get into it and cause eye infections.

I also have a maybelline mascara (2000 calorie) and it lasts for a loong time, but I think 10 months are a little long even for the best mascaras. I notice that it is over when it's dry, the brush is hard to get out of the container and it clumps. It make your lashes dry up fast after applying the mascara and they get hard to separate.
I recommend that you use it for about three months or until you feel that it's time to go and buy a new one.

oh…10 months, huh? yeah, your supposed to replace your mascara EVERY 3 MONTHS. You KNOW it's bad if it gets all clumpy and dry.
You should buy new mascara about every 2 months. You will know that it has bacteria in it if when you go to put the mascara on close to your eye then your eye will start to water. Another sign is when it has a strong smell.
